Privacy

Local by default, cloud only if you choose.

Last updated: July 2026

Firefly is two things. The Mac app records your gameplay to a folder you pick on your own computer and never asks you to sign in. Firefly Cloud is an optional service you activate by signing in with Apple; it lets you upload selected recordings and share them via a public link. This page covers both, so if you never use Cloud, the local-only sections are the ones that apply to you.

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Firefly ("the app", "we") handles information in connection with your use of the Firefly macOS application. We are committed to being straightforward: Firefly is designed from the ground up to keep everything on your device.

By using Firefly, you agree to this policy. If you have any questions, please reach out via the Support page.

Data Collection

Firefly does not collect, transmit, store remotely, or share any of the following: personal information of any kind, gameplay recordings or video footage, in-game statistics or match history, identifiable user or device information, or any other personal data from your device.

There are no advertising frameworks or third-party tracking SDKs included in Firefly.

Analytics & Crash Reports

Firefly may share basic usage analytics and crash reports with Apple and the developer through Apple's standard platform tools. This information is used solely to identify bugs and improve the stability and quality of the app. No personal information, gameplay recordings, or identifiable hardware information is included in these reports.

You can control whether analytics are shared with developers in your Mac's Privacy & Security settings under Analytics & Improvements.

Recordings & Local Storage

Firefly records your League of Legends gameplay and saves those recordings to a location you select on your own device. This can be your internal drive, an external hard drive, a network share, or any other location you choose. Firefly developers have no knowledge of or access to where you choose to save your files.

Recordings are never uploaded to any server. They are yours, stored locally, and fully under your control.

Screen & Audio Capture Permissions

Firefly requires screen recording and audio capture permissions granted by macOS to record your gameplay. These permissions are used solely to capture the League of Legends game window and its audio. Firefly does not capture any other applications, windows, or system audio outside of the League of Legends client.

Captured content is written directly to your chosen save location and is never processed, analyzed, or transmitted by Firefly or its developer.

Network Access

Firefly makes read-only requests to Riot Games' publicly available Data Dragon API to retrieve game assets such as champion images. This is a one-way download — no personal information, gameplay data, or recordings are included in these requests, and nothing from your device is uploaded to Riot Games or the developer.

No other network requests are made. Your recordings and gameplay data never leave your device.

Firefly Cloud — what we collect when you sign in

Cloud is opt-in. When you sign in via Apple, we keep this on our servers:

• An anonymous ID from Apple that lets us recognize you as the same person across sign-ins. It's specific to Firefly and isn't your Apple ID or email.
• Your email address — your real one or Apple's private-relay forwarder, whichever you pick at the Apple prompt.
• Your full name as it appears on your Apple ID. Apple shares this with us on the first sign-in and stops sending it after that, so whatever's on your Apple ID at that moment is what we keep.

That's everything we store about you. We do not manage or store any passwords or payment information — we rely on Apple for identity management and on Paddle, our payment processor and merchant of record, for all sensitive payment information.

Firefly Cloud — what you upload

When you upload a recording, clip, or montage to share, we receive:

• The video itself, after the Mac app compresses it for fast web playback.
• The game details that appear on the share page — your champion, the matchup, kills/deaths/objectives, game mode, role. These are the same things the in-app timeline already shows you.
• A thumbnail image used for the share-link preview.
• The IP address the upload came from. We use it only to protect the security of the service, prevent abuse and fraud, and respond to copyright/DMCA claims — never for advertising, analytics, or profiling. We don't sell it, and we don't share it with third parties for their own purposes; we disclose it only when required by law or valid legal process.

We only ever receive recordings you explicitly upload. Anything you haven't uploaded stays on your computer.

Firefly Cloud — how long we keep things

Retention depends on your plan tier. Free and trial uploads are deleted automatically after the plan's retention window passes. Paid uploads have no automatic expiry — they live until you delete them or close your account.

You can delete any individual upload anytime from the Cloud tab in the Mac app. Deleting an upload removes the video, the metadata file, the poster image, and the public share link.

You can also permanently delete your entire account yourself, immediately, from Settings → Cloud in the Mac app — see Your Rights below. Account deletion removes everything we have on you, including the Sign in with Apple identity record, all uploads, and all share links.

As a reminder we do not store credentials or payment information of any kind. You are responsible for securing your Apple ID; Firefly cannot assist you with Apple ID login or security issues. We also encourage you to review Paddle's privacy policy and terms of service for precise information on how they handle your personal and payment information.

Public share links

When you upload, we generate a public share URL — like app.fireflymac.gg/v/abc123 for a full-game recording, or app.fireflymac.gg/c/abc123 for a clip or montage. Anyone with that link can watch the video — that's the point of sharing. We ask search engines not to index share pages, but we can't stop someone you've shared with from passing the link to someone else.

We add extra protection to the actual video file so bots and scrapers can't grab it in bulk from outside the share page. The share page itself stays public until you delete the upload. Deleting an upload immediately disables its share link.

Your rights

You can do all of the following yourself from the Mac app's Cloud tab:

• View every upload we have stored for you, with its full metadata.
• Delete individual uploads at any time, immediately.
• Sign out, which clears your session token locally (uploads stay on the server until you delete them or close your account).
• Permanently delete your entire account and all associated data at any time, immediately, from Settings → Cloud → Delete Account & All Data in the Mac app.

If you can't use the Firefly app, you can instead request account closure by emailing support@fireflymac.gg from the address Apple shares with us. We process email closure requests within 7 days.

Sub-processors

To run Firefly Cloud we rely on a few outside services:

Apple Inc. — Sign in with Apple, so you can sign in to Firefly without us managing passwords.
Paddle — our payment processor and merchant of record for paid plans; it handles checkout, billing, applicable taxes, and receipts. We never see or store your card details. See Paddle's own privacy policy for how it handles payment data.
Cloudflare — provides the object storage (Cloudflare R2) where your uploaded videos and their share-page assets live, and the CDN that delivers them quickly worldwide. Cloudflare holds only your uploads and related assets, under our account. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how it handles data it processes on our behalf.
Riot Games' Data Dragon — a public image library we read to fetch champion icons that appear on share pages. Nothing about you flows the other way.

Your account records — the Apple identity ID, email, and name described above — live in a database on servers we operate directly. Your uploaded videos live in Cloudflare R2 as noted above. We keep this list current and will post material changes to our sub-processors here.

Children's Privacy

Firefly does not collect any personally identifiable information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. As no data is collected from any user, Firefly is compliant with COPPA and similar regulations by design.

It is against our terms of service for children under the age of 13 to sign up for the optional Firefly Cloud.

Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is ever updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Any future changes will maintain the same core commitment: no data collection, no data transmission, everything stays on your device.
